The No. 7 Bulldogs defeated the No. 5 Rebels 43-35 at Sanford Stadium on Saturday, October 18, knocking them off the list of undefeated teams.
Kiffin this week called Smart “the best coach I’ve ever seen in college football.”
The former Alabama defensive coordinator now has a 2-1 record against the former Crimson Tide offensive coordinator, with whom he worked under Nick Saban.
Georgia (6-1, 4-1 SEC) trailed 35-26 in the fourth quarter but outscored the Rebels 17-0 in the final 15 minutes. Gunner Stockton led the team back with touchdown passes of 3-yards to Nate Frazier and 7-yards to Lucky.
Stockton completed 26 of 31 passes for 238 yards and 4 touchdowns. He hit Dillon Bell from 36 yards out on a drive that led to a 42-yard field goal with 2:06 minutes remaining.
Ole Miss (6-1, 3-1) hasn’t won in Athens since 1996. It scored touchdowns on its first five possessions, but then failed to score a single point.

6:31 p.m. Lawson Lucky makes a hat-trick of touchdown catches
Georgia took the lead after driving 67 yards on a 7-yard touchdown pass from Gunner Stockton to Lawson Lucky.
This is his third touchdown catch of the game. Who was the last Georgia player to do so? Mohamed Massaquoi, against Georgia Tech in 2007.
Georgia leads 40-35 with 7:29 minutes remaining.
6:18 p.m. The Bulldogs cut the lead to 2-2 on a Nate Frazier touchdown run.
Ole Miss’s defense also fails to make many stops. Georgia drives 75 yards to score on a 3-yard touchdown pass from Gunner Stockton to Nate Frazier. The Bulldogs trail 35-33 with 12:56 minutes remaining.
5:59 p.m. Ole Miss kicks a fourth down, scores another touchdown
Ole Miss leads 35-26 after Trinidad Chambliss’s 2-yard touchdown run with 4:12 remaining in the third quarter.
On fourth down and 1, Kevan Lacey took the direct snap, passed it to Chambliss on the right side, and running back Josh Horton took the ball to the 13-yard line on a 16-yard run.
5:44 p.m.: Lucky catches a touchdown, but the 2-point conversion fails.
Out of the I-formation, Gunner Stockton hits Lawson Lucky’s open pass for a 3-yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion attempt is blocked when Stockton is dropped before he can throw. Georgia trails 28-26 with 10:02 remaining in the third quarter.
5:35 p.m. Disappointing start to the third quarter for Georgia
On the second play of the second half, Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss threw a short pass from the left side to De’jahun Stribling, who then scored a 75-yard touchdown. Delen Everett was disoriented on the play.
5:12 p.m. Georgia scored a field goal before halftime.
Peyton Woodring’s 35-yard field goal as time expired cut Ole Miss’s lead to 21-20.
Georgia covered 58 yards in 12 plays on the drive.
Georgia outscored Ole Miss 251-183 in the first half.
4:56 p.m. Ole Miss’s touchdown run put the Rebels ahead.
Kevan Lacey took a direct snap and scored on a 1-yard touchdown. Ole Miss went ahead 21-17 with 2:10 remaining in the second quarter. Ellis Robinson was flagged twice for pass interference to help the Rebels.
4:45 p.m. Gunner Stockton’s touchdown run put Georgia back on top.
Gunner Stockton’s 22-yard run went for a touchdown after a fake pass to Nate Frazier. The Bulldogs led 17-14 with 7:13 remaining in the second quarter. It was Stockton’s seventh rushing touchdown of the season.
At 4:34 p.m., Ole Miss drove for another touchdown.
Both teams scored on both possessions, but the Rebels scored on both.
Kevan Lacey’s 1-yard touchdown run capped a 65-yard drive. Trinidad Chambliss’ 24-yard pass to an open Winston Watkins sealed the score. 10:53 remaining in the second quarter. The Rebels lead 14-10.
