Dodgers’ Alex Vesia Steps Away Before World Series for “Deeply Personal” Matter With Pregnant Wife Kayla
The Los Angeles Dodgers are missing a teammate.
A day before the 2025 World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, the MLB team announced that pitcher Alex Vesia is absent from the team due to a personal matter involving his pregnant wife, Kayla Vesia.
In a statement shared on Instagram on October 23, the organization wrote, “It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that Alex Vesia is absent from the team as he and his wife, Kayla, are dealing with a very personal family matter.” “The entire Dodgers organization extends its condolences to the Vesia family, and we will provide further information at a later date.”
No further details were provided regarding Alex’s absence, and neither he nor his wife—who announced her pregnancy in April—have provided any updates.
Amid the departure of one of their star pitchers, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts detailed how the team is trying to make changes, as the team must submit its World Series squad list by 10 a.m. Eastern Time (ET) on the day of the first game.
He told reporters during a press conference, “Right now we’re trying to understand the process and the rules—a way we can try to understand the team. We’re trying to fill his spot on the team.”
As the team—which also includes Shohei Ohtani, Clayton Kershaw, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto—moves forward, Roberts said, “We’re just working day-to-day without any expectations.”
Before news of his departure broke, Alex celebrated the Dodgers’ victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Championship Series earlier this month, which secured their World Series spot.
Along with a photo of himself holding Kayla’s baby bump on the field, and another of them celebrating with a champagne shower in the locker room, Alex wrote on Instagram on October 18, “Next up… World Series.”
