Sunday, 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.: Another series of strong storms, which will dissipate later. Flooding is a major concern this weekend.
Heavy Rain Expected, Flooding Concerns
Flooding is a major concern this weekend as a major storm is approaching, bringing heavy rain and severe weather expected tonight through Saturday morning and continuing through Sunday morning. Flooding today and overnight: We are at a Level 1 risk. Tomorrow through Sunday: We are at a Level 2 risk. Rainfall rates in the strongest storms could exceed two to three inches per hour, which could lead to flash flooding if this rate of rain persists for an extended period.
Severe weather is also possible. The Storm Prediction Center has placed us at a Level 2 risk from today through tomorrow morning and a Level 2 risk from tomorrow through Sunday morning. There is also a slight chance of hail. Our primary focus is on the potential for strong winds. Tornadoes are not impossible, but not a significant threat either. These storms have the potential to rotate, so the possibility of a rapidly rotating tornado cannot be completely ruled out.
A period of thunderstorms is expected tonight, Saturday, and possibly early Sunday morning, with periods of calm in between. We are highly confident of severe storms Saturday morning, but less confident about the timing of storms late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
