Are PayPal and Venmo down? Here’s what to know after outages. United States of America
Some consumers trying to transfer money through the mobile money-sending apps PayPal and Venmo reported service outages on Thursday, October 16th.
According to Downdetector.com, which tracks service outages by gathering status reports from multiple sources, users began reporting problems with both apps around 11:15 a.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, October 16th.
The problem-tracking site showed service outage reports peaking around 12 p.m. Eastern Time for both payment sites.
“PayPal and Venmo experienced a brief service outage, which has since been resolved,” the company said in a statement to USA around 1 p.m. Eastern Time.
PayPal, which has owned Venmo since 2013, announced in July 2025 that PayPal and Venmo users would be able to send money to each other in 2026.
Downdector posted updates on X, stating that “user reports indicate problems with both sites”.
