Malcolm Brogdon retiring after 9 seasons in the NBA shortly after reaching deal with the Knicks
Malcolm Brogdon, selected 36th overall in 2016, became the first player drafted outside the first round since 1966 to win Rookie of the Year honors.
After nine NBA seasons, Malcolm Brogdon has decided to retire from basketball, he told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Wednesday.

“Today, I am officially retiring from my basketball career,” Brogdon told ESPN in a statement. “I have dedicated my mind, body, and soul to the game over the past few decades. With the many sacrifices I have made to get here, I have received many rewards.”
“I am deeply grateful to have reached this point on my own terms and now be able to enjoy the fruits of my career with my family and friends. My heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in my journey.”
The 32-year-old guard signed with the New York Knicks on September 15 and was on track to make the Knicks’ opening night roster before making this decision.
Brogdon, selected 36th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2016 NBA Draft, became the first player drafted outside the first round to win Rookie of the Year honors since 1966. In 2023, he won NBA Sixth Man of the Year honors while playing for the Boston Celtics.
Over 436 career games with the Wizards, Trail Blazers, Celtics, Pacers, and Bucks, Brogdon averaged 15.3 points, 4.7 assists, and 4.1 rebounds in 29.1 minutes per game.
