Titans not expected to trade Jeffery Simmons, plus more nuggets ahead of Nov. 4 NFL trade deadline
Simmons will play Sunday against the New England Patriots – led by former Tennessee head coach Mike Vrabel – and will next play for the Titans, whose interim head coach is Mike McCoy.
Tennessee will begin a systematic and well-thought-out coaching search that should include some top names like Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, Steelers head coach Arthur Smith, Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, former Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, Broncos DC Vance Joseph, and others.
The reality is that these trade talks occur throughout the league, with wealthy players calling those trying to acquire their best players. Opposing general managers and fans may envision Simmons playing in their uniforms, however, the morale damage from a firestorm could also harm teams already struggling on the field.
Simmons, who is just 28 years old and has two years remaining on his contract after 2025, is hoping for a significant contract extension in Tennessee this offseason, as he, along with new quarterback Cam Ward and a few other players, are among the players being groomed for the future. Simmons is coming off a career-best year with 4.5 sacks (the most among defensive tackles), 28 total tackles (eight for a loss), 23 quarterback pressures (the second-most among defensive tackles), and 11 quarterback hits (the most among defensive tackles and the eighth-most in the NFL) in six games.
Meanwhile, several other Titans players are generating interest around the league and will likely become more available. This list includes cornerback Roger McCreary, outside linebacker Arden Key, and edge Dre’Mont Jones.
