The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles looked completely different from their most impressive form, getting hammered on both sides of the ball in Thursday night’s 34-17 loss to rival New York.

“It seems more difficult than it needs to be. Maybe moving forward, we should bring in a little more variety and get some hits on the perimeter,” Johnson said, via

Johnson clarified that he wasn’t criticizing first-year offensive coordinator Kevin Pattullo, who has been under heavy criticism for his play-calling.
“I’m with Kevin until the end,” he said. “A lot of it depends on execution. We’ll go back and look at this tape and see what we need to improve on, but moving forward, maybe we can be more efficient, less predictable, and take advantage of big plays and explosiveness.”

The Eagles’ 339-yard offense on Thursday night was mostly empty calories. Jalen Hurts missed a few deep shots, and the ground game was hit-or-miss. There never seemed to be a solid reason behind these play calls. There was no script or clear plan to prepare the defense for a big play. Right now, the offensive game feels like hitting a wall and seeing what sticks. For long stretches, the fast offense remains inactive. Then several straight runs hit a brick wall, and a drive stalls.
“You play to win,” said Hurts, who threw a blatant interception in the fourth quarter. “Obviously, we’re competitive in this and trying to figure it out. We have some work to do, and that’s what matters.”
Saquon Barkley ran for 31 yards on his first two carries of the night. He then ran for 58 yards on 12 carries – the fourth time in six games that he had fewer than 60 rush yards in a game. In his final 10 carries, Barkley averaged 2.7 yards per tote. This was against a defense that ranked 29th in yards per carry (5.3) entering TNF.
